Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) - Center for CHW Research, Outcomes, and Workforce Development (CROWD) 

CROWD supports health systems, community-based organizations, health plans, community-focused coalitions, and government agencies in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating CHWs and CHW programs.

Other CHW Support

Illinois Certification Board, Inc. 

The Illinois Certification Board, Inc., provides competency-based credentialing of human service professionals focusing on behavioral health.  

The board offers two credentials for people in recovery who provide professional peer support services for persons recovering from mental health and/or substance use challenges. These include a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) and Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS).

Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services  

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services offers credentials for doulas and home visitors. Like CHWs, the credential is tied to Medicaid funding for these services. 

Doula Certification  

A doula is a trained professional who provides education and emotional and physical support to women before, during, and after childbirth.

Community Health Worker Registry

The CHW Registry is a searchable database of certified CHWs in Illinois.  The purpose of the registry is to verify the certification status of a CHW for hiring and reimbursement of CHW services from Medicaid and Medicare. You can access the database of state-certified CHWs here
